Kicking off The Green Line’s launch campaign! 🌱
Read on to learn how you can support us leading up to our website launch on April 1.
Hey y’all! Anita here. As many of you know, I’ve been busy working on The Green Line’s launch and planning my wedding, among other commitments, which is why I’ll be scaling down my publishing schedule for The Other Wave over the next four months. Stick with me, though, as I’ll continue publishing once a month until July 3; then my original bimonthly schedule will continue. Look out for the next edition of TOW on April 3. 📅
The Green Line’s launch campaign kicked off on March 1, so my team and I have started sending out supporter packages to our community members, partners, funders and other stakeholders.
Thank *you*, dear reader, for also joining me on my media entrepreneurship journey as I’ve documented it in this newsletter over the past year. I’m grateful to those of you who sent along words of support and encouragement. If you’re willing and especially if you believe in The Green Line’s mission and values, I’d really appreciate it if you shared our landing page, considered becoming a member, and amplified our stories throughout the month of March and on April 1, 2022, our official launch day.
Below, I’ve included The Green Line’s supporter package to make it as easy as possible for you to spread the word. It includes different ways to support us, examples of promotional posts for social media that you can copy and paste (or take inspiration from), visual media assets and more.
Thanks again for considering this request! As someone who doesn’t come from money or have establishment connections, your support — however small — will go a long way. 🙏
We’re so grateful to you for supporting The Green Line, and our team’s mission to redefine Toronto through the way we live. Our official website launch is on April 1, 2022, though we started rolling out our launch campaign across TGL’s social platforms on March 1. Please tag @TheGreenLineTO and use #TheGreenLineTO in all of your supporting posts.

Quick and clean
“In my community” and “Cool stuff I like” will return…
I’m thrilled to announce that I just joined LION Publishers’ board of directors. The leading association and resource for local indie news publishers in North America will be integral to shaping the future of local journalism worldwide.
Check out this handy chart by Heidi Legg, a research fellow for Harvard University’s Future of Media Project, which breaks down where Canadians consume the most digital news. U.S. and UK outlets play a significant role.
I so admire Emily Atkin for writing this vulnerable edition of Heated, her stellar newsletter about the climate crisis, in which she transparently explains why she’s going on temporary hiatus.
I enjoyed this edition of People vs Algorithms, a newsletter by Troy Young, former global president of Hearst Magazines. My favourite takeaway is from my former boss and Complex founder Rich Antoniello: “Starting with distribution is the wrong way to think about it. You have to start with innovation in narrative and format."
How you can support The Other Wave
My professional mission has always been to support the global movement towards more thoughtful, impactful news coverage, and all the ways that manifests. If The Other Wave gets you to think even a little differently about journalism, especially in Canada, then I will have accomplished what I set out to do. And if TOW gets you to take action and support Canadian media outlets — especially ones that strive to be innovative and inclusive — I will have exceeded my expectations.
If my values and goals resonate with you, please consider supporting fiercely independent media analysis that fills in gaps in coverage of the Canadian journalism landscape. How? Feel free to provide feedback, pass along resources, donate money or simply share this newsletter with your friends.
